Art therapy in Healesville, Victoria
Beyond Valleys Art Therapy is a small but mighty art therapy practice nestled in Healesville, Victoria.
Our story begins with a simple vision: to deconstruct dominant approaches to mental health in Australia where medical-model theories take centre stage, holding power over us and our lived experiences.
Driven by the urgency to heal humanity in more than verbal ways, our holistic approach to wellbeing honours your unique voice and journey. We believe in the power of the arts to restore relationships and create pathways for change that are inclusive, non-pathologising, and truly transformative.
We support individuals, teams, businesses, and communities to make this possible.

Welcome, I’m really glad you’re here.
Hi, I'm Amanda, registered Arts Therapist and founder of Beyond Valleys Art Therapy.
I started my practice to address a gap in mental health care, recognising that not everyone fits the mold of mainstream talk therapy. I used to believe talking was the only way to move through our struggle and pain, but I know now that words only go so far.
In a world where verbal language often falls short, I wanted to offer a safe space where creativity can become a bridge to healing. A place where expression can happen even if we don’t have the words, or if our emotions feel a little too big to say.
I believe that creativity is within each of us and not bound by skill. It is an inherent part of what makes us human, a powerful catalyst for change, and the magic you never knew you had to transform what is raw and in pieces, into something precious, sublime, and whole.
What’s art therapy?
Trauma-informed and evidence-based practice
Reduce stress and boost mental health
Build self-confidence and resilience
Improve connection and relationships
Neurobiology, cognitive neuroscience, psychology and other science disciplines have established a strong and rigorous evidence base for the creative arts therapies, with the World Health Organisation providing international recognition for the major role of the arts in health and wellbeing.
Art therapy is a trauma-informed therapy that weaves creative processes with best-practice counselling and psychotherapy. It draws on various art forms (e.g., visual arts, poetry, music, dance and drama) within the safety of a therapeutic relationship with a Masters-trained arts therapist, to facilitate insights and healing of experiences that words alone cannot reach or hold.

In art therapy, materials offer an expressive language far more precise than the verbal, with which to authentically understand and connect with what hurts, and equally with what heals. By giving form to our innermost thoughts and experiences, art allows the unseen parts of ourselves to be seen, making the abstract tangible and demystifying the unknown.Art therapy also focuses on the process of making art, rather than the final artworks themselves. By staying with the process, we welcome joy, curiosity, calm, connection and flow – even in the midst of chaos and feeling stuck. This gentle mode of healing attends not only to our distress and discomfort, but invites new relational possibilities where we can discover our strengths, find our spark, and say yes to what really matters.
